Lynn Ruggieri is a dual citizen of Italy and the U.S. and splits her time between the two countries, residing in Perugia for the last 10 years. Lynn has been leading trips to the UK for the last 15 years. Her passion and enthusiasm will make for an unforgettable experience.

Join Marny Kindness (knitter, instructor, knitwear designer) for knitting classes throughout the tour of England and Scotland. We will learn techniques, shaping, colorwork, designing your own pattern and British/Scottish inspired designs. All knitters should have a basic understanding of knitting.

Knitting in England and Scotland 

We will start with a project, inspired by our journey, that we will all knit together while traveling.

Textures Class - We will learn different kinds of textures like brioche, cables, stitch patterns, and advanced knitters can design their own textures and swatch it. 

Color Class - Using colorwork and multiple yarns, we will create our own tartans inspired by Scotland. 

Photographing Your Knits Workshop - Learn about lighting, draping, wearing/modeling and variety of shots for photographing your knitwear in the English and Scottish countryside and cityscapes.

Fri 3/7 –London (4 nights) daytime flight

Welcome to England! Bus from airport to hotel. Check in hotel PM.

Evening - Dinner on own, Free time exploring London. Rest and get ready for your adventure.

Sat 3/8 – London 

Bus trip to Windsor Castle, a royal residence located outside of London, oldest and largest occupied castle built in the 11th century. It’s been home to over 40 monarchs and has been a royal residence for over 1000 years. Elizabeth and Margaret were raised here. See exquisite architecture. Visit Loop London yarn store, while exploring Camden passage neighborhood. Dinner at hotel and knitting cast on party! Meals - B, D.

Afternoon - Lunch on own, Loop London, Knitting in the Frequency cafe, explore Camden passage neighborhood

Sun 3/9 - London

Explore London! Visit the British Museum which has over 60 galleries ranging from ancient to today. Some of the highlights include ancient Egyptian, African, Roman Empire and European. The Rosetta Stone is the most famous and most popular exhibit. Discovered in 1799, it’s the cornerstone of modern Egyptology, and credited with unlocking the ancient hieroglyphic language. In the afternoon we will board a private English Tea Bus for high tea on a double decker bus touring around the city while knitting. Shopping at Covent Garden, Liberty London. Meals included - B, L

Mon 3/10 - Stonehenge and Bath

Day trip filled with history. Enjoy spectacular views of rolling hills and sheep as we travel to Stonehenge and the English countryside. See the ancient mystery of Stonehenge before we travel the scenic landscape to picturesque Bath. Bath is known for its Roman Baths with rich history, and has the Jane Austen Center, as well as many shops, restaurants and cultural events. Netflix tv show, Bridgerton’s modiste was filmed in Bath. Lunch and knitting in a British pub. Visit A Yarn Story, yarn store, shopping, sights. Meals included – B, L

Morning - Breakfast included, Bus tour to Stonehenge and Bath. Admission included.

Afternoon - Shopping and knitting in beautiful, historic Bath. Lunch included. Yarn store visit. Sightseeing.

Evening - Bus trip back, Dinner in London on own

Tues 3/11 – Travel to Nottingham (1 night)

Departing London. Bus ride to Ruddington. Private tour of Framework Knitters Museum, an award winning museum and one of the few places left where you can experience the living conditions of Victorian craftspeople. Stay overnight in Nottingham at a cottage inn (we have the whole inn to ourselves). Scottish tartan Knitting class. Meals - B, D

Morning - Breakfast included, Bus trip to Ruddington. 

Afternoon - Visit Knitters Museum private tour. Down time in Inn before class.

Evening - Knitting class, Dinner in Inn.

Wed 3/12 - St. Andrews/Edinburgh (4 nights)

Depart Nottingham. Drive to Scotland to visit a small coastal town, St. Andrews, outside of Edinburgh. Known as the birthplace of golf, it has picturesque views, a university that Prince William attended, and a castle. We will visit St. Andrews Castle, visit Di Gilpin and see Scottish yarns and hand spun wool. Visit Edinburgh Castle, historic castle in Scotland, standing on Castle Rock, it’s a UNESCO world heritage site, explore the long history with the military and royalty. Meals - B

Morning - Breakfast included. Bus trip to St. Andrews, explore landscape. Di Gilpin shop.

Afternoon - Lunch on own. Bus back to Edinburgh. Visit Edinburgh Castle.

Evening - Free evening in Edinburgh. Dinner on own.

Thurs 3/13 – Stirling/Glasgow

Day trip to Stirling/Glasgow. Visit Radical Weavers, Stirling. Participants have the chance to connect with local traditions, witnessing the art of weaving in action and gaining insight into its historical and cultural importance. Guided by skilled artisans, visitors can actively participate, weaving their own creations and gaining a deeper appreciation for the craft's intricacies. At the studio, we will take a weaving workshop and have individual mini looms to design and create our own Scottish tartans to take home (coaster sized). Visit New Lanark Spinning Co, a working fiber mill, is one of World Heritage status, conserving architecture and the historical significance of wools and milling. We will visit the site and check out their yarn shop with a range of yarns for knitting, weaving and other Scottish goods. Head into Glasgow to visit The Yarn Cake yarn shop. Stay in Edinburgh. Dinner and knitting social party. Meals - B, D

Morning - Breakfast included. Bus trip to Stirling. Radical Weavers workshop of Scottish Tartan weaving.

Afternoon - Lunch on own. Visit New Lanark Spinning co. Bus to Glasgow. Yarn Cake shop and shopping.

Evening - Dinner included in Edinburgh hotel. Knitting social.

Fri 3/14 - Edinburgh

Explore Edinburgh. Some of the earliest mills were in Scotland, and this area became a center for production of high quality woolen cloth. At the Scottish Textile Showcase, you will hear about the makers, the craft, how wool gets made, what inspires designs, and a tour of the showroom. Visit Tron Kirk Market, a 17th century church in the Royal Miles, with artists and designers selling goods. Visit Dovecot Studio, a tapestry studio and center for contemporary art, craft and design in Edinburgh. There are exhibitions and installations to see, along with a viewing balcony where you can watch the weavers and makers at work creating fiber. Shopping in the neighborhood. All 3 are walkable. Special visit to Ginger Twist yarn shop for private shopping and dyeing demo (evening). Meals included - B, D

Morning - Breakfast included. 2 group visits at Scottish Textile Showcase (9am and 10:15am). While one group is in tour, other group visits Tron Kirk Market, then switches. 

Afternoon - Dovecot Studio visit. Lunch on own. Shopping, exploring.

Evening - Ginger Twist private shopping and dyeing demo 5:30-7pm. Dinner included in Edinburgh.

Sat 3/15 - Flight home departing Scotland

Sad that we are leaving our fun adventures, but happy we explored wonderful and fiber-filled places, with new friends, making lifelong memories.
