October 11-18, 2024 Umbrian Treasure Tour - Knitaly Tour

We arrived in Rome and headed to Perugia for 3 nights. Perugia is spectacular. Up at the top of a hill, you have miles of beautiful countryside all around you. We stayed at the Fortuna Hotel which is so charming and lovely. The food was wonderful, and the staff are friendly and very helpful. We explored Perugia which is steeped in history, architecture, culture, food and shops. It’s fairly quiet during the day, so for travelers that like less crowds, this is the place for you. It comes alive at night and the main square is hopping with people. The food is some of the best we’ve had in our lives. If you are there, visit La Taverna. It’s lifechanging. We visited a few churches in town to see exquisite architecture and painted frescoes. The view from the top of our hotel was gorgeous, and it had a patio where we sit and knit watching the sunset. Perugia is part of our hearts now.

We visited a loom studio in Perugia which is the studio of Guiditta Brozzetti. She’s an incredible designer and at the studio they only use ancient techniques with pedal looms. It was such a treat to learn the history of this amazing art form and tour of the gorgeous studio which has a long history.

One of our day trips was to a small town called Assisi, at the very top of a steep hill. We had a fantastic walking tour of the town with history. St. Francis was the feature, and the tour ended with us at a church with the resting place of St. Francis. After the tour, we walked up a hill to the most beautiful spot for lunch. How can you beat this view? We had the terrace all to ourselves. The food was delicious and the group had a great time. We even got a few stitches in before the wine came.

Visited Torgiano to Longerotti Vineyard, a tour of how the wine is made and a delicious lunch after.
